Vignette release notes September 11, 2026
Folder-to-album gallery imports, shareable day-of run sheets, location-aware sun planning, clearer finance reporting, and more resilient uploads.
New this week
Turn a folder tree into an organized gallery
Gallery creation can now translate one selected folder into albums automatically. Photos at the root stay in Gallery Photos, each immediate subfolder becomes an album, and deeper folders roll into their top-level album. Existing album names are reused without case-sensitive duplicates, natural path order is preserved, and the upload preview groups everything exactly as it will appear. You can still choose individual images, add another batch before uploading, and review a clear desktop or mobile summary first.
Learn howChoose the frame, not just the cover
Any gallery image can now become the album cover, with a 4:3 position editor that lets you place the focal point without cropping or rewriting the original. Until you choose one, the first image remains the automatic cover and follows your album order. A visible star identifies an explicit choice, the position follows it through reordering, and removing it falls back cleanly to the first image. Package covers gain the same control in a 16:10 frame, keep their position when a package is duplicated, recenter after the image is replaced or cleared, and carry the crop through owner views and the public storefront. Storefront package cards also show included items up front, with extra deliverables available in a compact disclosure.
Learn howA calendar designed for the screen in front of you
On phones, the seven-day calendar now uses a Sunday-first date strip and shows one selected day at a time, with event dots and week-to-week navigation that preserves the weekday you were viewing. Tablets keep the entire week visible without sideways scrolling. Month view now fits all seven columns, shortens labels where space is tight, and limits crowded dates to a useful preview. Selecting +N more, a date number, or open calendar space takes you straight to that day, while selecting an event still opens its booking or event details.
Learn howBring planning into appointments and meeting requests
Appointments and meeting requests now include a compact Questionnaires area for photographer-side planning. Start blank or from an active Planning template, customize the draft for that meeting, inspect retained answers, reopen an incomplete submitted response, or save the structure as a new response-free template. Questions that already have answers stay protected from removal. Client delivery for these meeting questionnaires is not enabled yet, so drafts remain private to the photographer.
Learn howPublish a dedicated day-of run sheet
Sharing a booking timeline now creates a stable, mobile-first run sheet at its own secure link. It includes studio branding, the shoot date and time, location, primary photographer, public studio contact, last-updated time, and only the timeline events marked for clients—never contracts, payments, questionnaires, galleries, client details, internal notes, or team compensation. You can open or copy the page, use the device share sheet, stop sharing, and later restore the same link. Team calendars and invitations expose it only after you publish. Clients and active team members receive a consolidated reminder the evening before the event, while late-published plans join the next reminder cycle and team reminders fall back to the signed-in calendar when no run sheet is shared.
Learn howReuse and recover more of your planning work
A completed booking timeline or questionnaire can now be saved back to Planning as a fresh active template. Team assignments are cleared from saved timelines and client responses are never copied into questionnaire templates. Planning also gains a View archived templates switch, so archived timeline and questionnaire templates can be restored instead of rebuilt. Existing plans attached to bookings, appointments, and requests remain unchanged when a source template is archived or restored.
Learn howDownload and upload RAW handoffs in fewer steps
Each team submission now has one Download all action that retrieves every ready original instead of requiring a separate click for every file. That first download starts the seven-day cleanup window while the existing 30-day maximum remains in place. Contributors can also upload several originals in parallel within a shared connection budget, and a temporary failure retries only the affected file part. ZIP files remain accepted, but sending the original RAW or JPEG files directly is now the faster path.
Learn howTeam assignments reach external calendars
Google Calendar and Apple Calendar subscriptions now include active booking-team assignments for the verified Vignette account connected to that teammate. A pending invitation appears as tentative, an accepted assignment becomes confirmed, and a declined or removed assignment disappears on the next calendar refresh. Entries include only the session title, assigned role, and location—not the lead photographer’s client or private booking details—and existing feed subscriptions update automatically.
Learn howScout the sun for any place and date
The dashboard Sun Tracker is no longer limited to today at the studio address. Search a verified address, ZIP code, or state, choose any calendar date, and Vignette recalculates sunrise, sunset, golden hour, and the sun path using that location’s coordinates and time zone. Reset returns to the studio location and its current date, and the widget clearly distinguishes a selected location from the saved studio default.
Learn howFinance reports explain what the numbers mean
Revenue Breakdown now opens by photography Category, covers the full category list, and offers Session Type as the focused Full Session versus Mini Session view. Historical receipts stay with the category saved on their booking even if a package is later changed or unlinked. Tax Snapshot is now Tax Set-Aside, with visible flat-rate assumptions, Review required or Rates reviewed status, conservative state starter rates based on studio location, and accessible explanations for every ledger line. Saved rates remain the studio’s explicit choice, filing status and business type are labeled as context, and incomplete processor-fee data produces a warning. The language is intentionally savings guidance—not a claim that Vignette calculates taxes owed.
Learn howFixes and refinements
Large gallery uploads recover instead of starting over
Gallery uploads now check the selected batch against available storage before starting, request transfer details in small just-in-time groups, refresh an expired upload link once, and adjust concurrency for constrained devices while keeping the interface responsive. There is no fixed frontend photo-count cap; practical limits are your storage, browser, and connection. Large previews render only the tiles in view, completed photos remain safe if a later file fails, and minimizing the uploader or navigating within Vignette does not stop the transfer. A clear warning appears before closing or refreshing the tab. If the browser is interrupted, a seven-day local recovery record lets you reopen the gallery, select the same folder, and upload only unfinished files; it stores file metadata, not the photos themselves.
Learn howGallery order stays consistent from picker to client
New selections are normalized into case-insensitive, number-aware filename order, so IMG_2 comes before IMG_10 whether files arrive from a picker, drag and drop, or a folder. Adding another selection re-sorts only the incoming batch and appends it without disturbing an existing curated gallery. Album assignment, drag reordering, client preview, and the public viewer now all use the same saved album order, eliminating cases where clients saw a different sequence from the photographer.
Learn howDate picking is consistent across the workspace
Contracts, attached signing dates, payment due dates, gallery filters, finance payment and payout filters, and tax entries now use the same Vignette date picker instead of switching to each browser’s native control. The shared picker keeps navigation, limits, validation, mobile behavior, and visual styling consistent, while paired From and To filters prevent impossible date ranges.
Finance controls and layouts stay usable
Finance metric, period, payment, and payout filters now use a keyboard-accessible custom menu with arrow, Home, End, Enter, Space, and Escape support. The Finance tab bar no longer compresses or clips after moving between long Payments and Payouts pages, and narrow screens can scroll it horizontally. Standalone overview cards stop stretching into empty space and pushing transaction tables below the fold, the Payout details link is visibly recognizable as a link, and inactive report actions or unsupported Custom chart ranges no longer appear.
Learn howPayment and scheduling language matches the workflow
An installment tied to signing now says Due at contract signing only when that booking actually requires a contract; otherwise it correctly reads Due at booking confirmation. Appointments and meeting requests also use the same canonical 15-minute scheduling cadence throughout, removing the separate interval setting that could make available-time behavior feel inconsistent.
