A gallery is the workspace where you organize and deliver a collection of photos.
Create a gallery
- Select Add Gallery or open Galleries and choose the add-gallery card.
- Enter a clear gallery name.
- Assign a client if the gallery belongs to someone already in People.
- Add useful tags.
- Turn on Start with a sneak peek if this first group should be delivered before the full gallery.
- Continue to the upload step.
A gallery does not need a client. Leave the client empty for portfolio or personal work, then assign someone later if needed.
Vignette does not create the gallery until you commit the upload. If every image in a new gallery fails, Vignette removes the empty shell instead of leaving a broken gallery in your list.
Upload photos
- Drag individual photos or a complete folder into the upload area, or choose files from your computer.
- Review the selected files.
- Start the upload.
- Keep the Vignette browser tab open while file bytes are transferring.
- Review completed and failed files before closing.
After you choose files, Vignette shows each photo so you can check them. Use Add images or Add folder to include more, then select upload.
JPG, PNG, and WebP images are supported. Vignette keeps the original for downloads and prepares smaller display versions for faster browsing.
Folder contents and files added in several selections are sorted in natural filename order before upload, so a name such as IMG_2 appears before IMG_10. When you add a new batch to an existing gallery or album, Vignette appends that batch without rearranging photos you already curated.
When you choose a folder, each folder directly inside it can become an album. Photos at the top level stay in Gallery Photos. Deeper folders stay grouped inside their first album. Review the album names and photo order before starting the upload.
If you started with a sneak peek, only this first successful batch is selected for it. Later uploads stay private until you choose them.
Keep working during a large upload
You can minimize or close the upload window and move to another Vignette page while the upload continues. A progress notification remains available and can reopen the upload results. Only one gallery upload can run at a time.
The Vignette browser tab must remain open while files are actively transferring. Photos already marked complete remain safely attached to the gallery even if a later file fails or the tab closes unexpectedly.
If an upload is interrupted, reopen the gallery and select the same folder or files again. For seven days, Vignette can recognize locally checkpointed completions and continue with the unfinished files. Your browser does not allow Vignette to reopen local files automatically, so you must reselect them.
Review duplicate filenames
When you add photos to an existing gallery, Vignette compares filenames with the complete gallery, including its albums, and with other files in the same selection.
- Choose Skip duplicates to leave out the matching files and upload only new filenames.
- Choose Upload all to keep and upload every selected file on purpose.
Closing the duplicate prompt returns to file selection without starting the upload. If you skip every file, Vignette says the duplicates were ignored and asks you to add different images.
Handle an upload problem
If one file fails:
- Confirm your internet connection is stable.
- Retry the failed file.
- If it fails again, check that the file opens correctly on your computer.
- Export a fresh JPG or supported image and try again.
Successfully uploaded photos stay in the gallery even when another file fails.
Unsupported files remain visible with an error so you can identify and remove them before upload. Convert GIFs or other unsupported formats to JPG, PNG, or WebP before trying again.
Choose the first cover
The first completed image may become the initial gallery cover. You can change it later from the gallery editor.
Continue working after upload
When the batch finishes, Vignette shows Complete with the number of photos uploaded and presents View Gallery.
Open the gallery to arrange photos, add albums, choose the cover, preview the client experience, and share it.
Before sharing: Wait for uploads and any watermark processing to finish. Use View as a client to confirm that the gallery looks complete.
What Vignette does behind the scenes
Your browser sends photo files straight to private upload storage after Vignette grants short-lived permission. The app then records each finished photo and prepares smaller viewing versions in the background. Originals are kept for allowed downloads.
This is why one failed photo does not erase the photos that already finished, and why a newly uploaded photo can appear before every faster viewing version is ready. The upload tab must stay open while file bytes are still moving.
